Building Blocks by Calen Morelli is a visual card effect built around perception – that strange moment when the mind begins to see something before it physically exists. Three queens are openly displayed, while abstract and incomplete images on their backs encourage the spectator's brain to fill in what is missing.

When perception becomes reality

The spectator can clearly see the three cards, yet the shapes and partial images on their backs immediately invite the mind to complete the picture. Borders, edges and patterns begin to suggest something that is not actually there.

As the experience develops, the imagined missing card starts to feel increasingly present. Then the illusion suddenly becomes physical reality, openly and without cover: a complete, real playing card is now sandwiched exactly where the spectator's mind had previously constructed it.

More than a three-card effect

Building Blocks is designed around the transition between perception and physical reality. The spectator becomes conscious of their own mind filling in incomplete information, before experiencing that imagined object becoming real.

The card can even be given to the spectator afterwards.

You receive a set of handcrafted gaff cards featuring magnetic alignment for smooth performances. They are made from actual playing cards rather than simply being printed.
