Bets in Show by John Guastaferro is a powerful card routine requiring no sleight of hand, with the spectators doing the cutting, dealing and handling themselves. You barely touch the cards as a series of seemingly impossible connections between playing cards and poker chips are revealed, leading to a surprising finale.

The Effect

You begin with a deck of cards and five poker chips. After giving the cards a quick shuffle, the participants cut the deck themselves in several different ways, ultimately arriving at four cards. At first, they appear to have cut to four completely random cards.

You then reveal that all four cards correspond with the casino names on individual poker chips. The Ace of Spades, for example, sits alongside a $1 chip from the Black Aster Casino, while the Five of Diamonds is matched with a $5 chip from the Five Points Royale.

But the coincidence goes further. Printed on the reverse of each poker chip is the exact playing card the spectator cut to.

The Final Chip

One poker chip remains – from the Desert Oasis Casino. This time, however, the reverse is completely blank.

For the final revelation, you show that every card in the deck is also blank apart from the four cards the spectators cut to.

Designed for Performance

Bets in Show requires no sleight of hand, with the spectators carrying out much of the handling themselves. The routine finishes completely clean, with no trick cards, sleight of hand or deck switch to worry about.
