FUEL by Lloyd Barnes and Craig Petty is a powerful transformation effect in which a lighter impossibly becomes the spectator's signed playing card. The effect can be performed as a highly visual change in your own hands or directly in the spectator's hands.

The lighter becomes their signed card

A playing card is selected and signed before being lost back into the deck. A lighter is introduced and placed into the spectator's hands.

The card vanishes from the deck, but rather than simply appearing underneath or inside the lighter, something far more unusual happens: the lighter itself becomes their signed card.

When the spectator opens their hands, the lighter has disappeared. In its place is a piece of playing card with a lighter printed on one side and their own signature on the other.

Two different versions

FUEL includes both large and mini lighter gimmicks, designed to create two distinctly different presentations.

The large version is built for a highly visual transformation. You hold the lighter in your hands while the spectators look directly at it, before unfolding it to reveal their signed card.

The mini version is designed for the in-the-hands presentation. The spectator experiences the lighter being placed directly into their hands, yet when they open them, it has transformed into their signed playing card.

No real lighter required

One of the practical features of FUEL is that the effect does not necessarily require a real lighter. There is no need to light anything beforehand or manage a genuine lighter throughout the routine.

The tutorial does, however, also teach how to switch a real lighter in and out of play if you prefer to incorporate one into your presentation.

What you receive

You receive a total of 40 FUEL gimmicks:

  • 20 large lighter gimmicks for the visual transformation
  • 20 mini lighter gimmicks for the in-the-hands version

FUEL therefore gives you two different ways to perform the same central impossibility: a lighter becomes the spectator's signed playing card.
