The Camera Trick by Matthew Wright

The Camera Trick combines card magic with animations on your phone. Matthew Wright's routine can be presented as two separate effects or one extended routine, linking what spectators see on screen with a physical card revelation.

A signed card and a digital glitch

A spectator selects a card and signs its back. Your phone camera points at the signed back, yet the screen apparently sees through it to reveal its face. A second selection is made and the screen image morphs into that card. As you attempt to change it back, the animation freezes halfway through a glitch. The signed physical card is turned over and is now a jumbled misprint.

The King of Hearts makes another card

In the second effect, the King of Hearts is selected and signed on the back. On screen, the King produces a blank piece of paper, removes his sword and transfers four hearts onto the paper to create the Four of Hearts. When the physical card is turned over, the King really is holding the Four of Hearts.

App and compatibility

This effect requires Matthew Wright's CTRL'D App for iOS. An Android version has been announced, but Android support is not yet confirmed. The routine is described as easy to perform and suitable for all skill levels.
