Before the spectator even thinks of a number, you openly display a single playing card with a different coloured back from the rest of the deck and fairly insert it among the cards. The spectator then freely thinks of any number between 1 and 52.

From this point, the spectator takes over. They count through the cards themselves until they reach their freely thought-of number. At that exact position comes the impossible revelation: the only odd-backed card in the entire deck is sitting precisely at the number they merely thought of. The magician never touches the deck during the effect. There are no switches and no suspicious moves.
