The effect

Digital Materialization by David Penn makes a real smartphone visibly appear inside a windowed box. Show the empty interior from every side and leave the box on the table. Red and blue lights suggest circuits assembling, followed by a white flash and the appearance of a working phone. The sequence takes approximately ten seconds.

Control and construction

The injection-moulded box is designed for straightforward operation. A companion app lets you set an automatic trigger and adjust the animation's timing and pacing to suit your presentation. The phone can be handed out for examination after its appearance.

Phone requirements and dimensions

You supply your own smartphone and prepare it in advance. The maximum supported phone size is 163.4 x 78.0 x 13.25 mm. An iPhone 17 Pro Max fits without its protective case. The box's external dimensions are 180 x 96 x 31 mm.
